PULLMAN, Wash. - Michael Weber's grand slam capped a seven-run second inning and Washington State routed No. 23 Oregon State for the second-straight day with an 11-4 win in Pacific-10 Conference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Sunday.

"We won the series today, but we cannot think about a sweep tomorrow," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We have to think about playing good baseball in all areas of the game each time we come to the park."

Washington State (24-19, 5-9 Pac-10) scored four runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Jared Prince and a run-scoring single by both Scott Suttmeier and Greg Lagreid.

After Oregon State (20-18, 8-9 Pac-10) tallied three times in the top of the second, the Cougars took advantage of some wildness from Beavers' starter Tanner Robles (3-1) in the bottom half of the frame.

With one out, Robles walked Paul Gran, and then hit Jim Murphy and Prince to load the bases. A walk to Alex Burg made it 5-3 and a free pass to Suttmeier forced in another run. Greg Peavey came in from the Oregon State bullpen, walked Greg Lagreid to make it 7-3, fell behind 2-0 to Weber, then watched as the Cougar second baseman launched his third home run of the season well over the fence in right field to put Washington State on top 11-3. The four RBI gives Weber eight in the first two games of the series.

Jayson Miller (6-1) made the lead stand up with six and two-thirds inning of work, giving up four runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out three. Miller pitched at least six innings for the 11th-straight start to become the first Cougar hurler to do so since Rob Ramsay in 1996.

The 21 runs scored by the Cougars in the first two games of the series equals the Washington State output against Oregon State in its last six games against the Beavers prior to this season.

Steve Kost recorded the final out when he retired Jason Ogata on a ground ball to third baseman Paul Gran. It was the 12th assist of the day for Gran, a Cougar single-game record.

The teams conclude their three-game series, Monday at noon.
