Cougar Women Rally to Tenth Place Finish in Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Washington State Women's Golf team overcame a tough course to record a tenth place finish at the BYU Dixie Classic, played on the par-72, 6,029 yard Entrada Golf Course.

The Cougars were sitting in 11th place at the end of Tuesday's play, but a third round score of 309 assured the Cougars sole possession of tenth place and a final team score of 931, just one stroke behind the two eighth place finishers, San Diego State and University of Idaho.

"We played alright today," said Head Golf Coach Walt Williams. "We made up some ground and overall we did pretty well."

Freshman Diana Hong picked up her fourth top-25 finish of the season, completing the tournament in 20th. Hong scored a 76 in all three rounds of the competition, giving her a final score of 228 (+12). Junior Tracy Broders also finished in the top-25, ending the tournament with a score of 230 (+14) and tied for 23rd.

"Both Hong and Broders played well today," Williams said. "Hong was solid for us throughout the entire tournament."

Sophomore Amy Eneroth shot an 80 in the third round which gave her a final score of 238 (+22). Junior Brooke Henderson finished four strokes behind Eneroth with a score of 242 (+26), and sophomore Jessica Black completed the competition with a final score of 245 (+29).

The women will be back in action on Friday, April 6, when they compete in the Stanford Intercollegiate. A practice round will be played Thursday, April 5, followed by an 8 a.m. start on Friday.
