PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State junior tight end Troy Bienemann earned CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team honors Thursday, joining a team that includes Utah Heisman Trophy candidate Alex Smith and Stanford receiver Evan Moore.

Bienemann, a communication major, was selected on the strength of his 3.75 cumulative grade point average and his 21 receptions for 224 yards and a touchdown this season. The Santa Clara, Calif., native also serves as the long snapper on punts.

"I try to take pride in everything I do on and off the field," Bienemann said. "It's nice to be recognized for that because being a good student-athlete is hard work."

Bienemann also earned District VIII first team accolades last season, as well as Pac-10 All-Academic first team.
