Who, What, When, Where: The WSU Cougars play host to a pair of California schools in San Jose State and Cal State Northridge...the Spartans visit at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20...WSU takes on the Matadors of Cal State Northridge Saturday, Oct. 21 in an 11 a.m. meet...both meets will take place at WSU's Gibb Pool.
Cougars Sweep Idaho: WSU took their first win of the season with a sweep over border rival Idaho at the University of Idaho Swim Center...the Cougars took first place in all eight events en route to a 192-100 victory...all eight events were relay events.
Scouting the Spartans: San Jose State is coming off a double dual meet Oct. 14 at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, Calif....the Spartans defeated UC Santa Cruz 170-95 but lost to host UC Davis 169-131...senior Ashley Vrieze took first in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events...other event winners for the Spartans were Hannah Tringham (200 butterfly) and China Cho (50 freestyle)...San Jose State is now 1-3 in dual meets on the season...the Spartans also lost to both Stanford and Oregon State in an Oct. 6 double dual meet held at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center...head coach Sage Hopkins is in his first season with the Spartans.
Scouting the Matadors: Most recently, the Cal State Northridge Matadors suffered an 86-9 loss at the hands of the USC Trojans, ranked sixth nationally at the time, Saturday, Oct. 14...it was CSUN's first meet of the 2006-07 season...freshman Shannon Colavito led all CSUN swimmers and managed a fourth place finish in the 400 IM...the Matadors are now 0-1 overall in dual meets...head coach Barry Schreifels is in his 14th season with CSUN...the Matadors were tabbed to finish sixth in the Big West preseason poll...CSUN is led by Colavito, sophomore Robyn Johnson and sophomore Sanda Jukic...prior to their meet with the Cougars, the Matadors will take on the Idaho Vandals Friday, Oct. 20, at the University of Idaho Swim Center.
