COUGARS TRAVEL TO BAY AREA FOR PAIR OF TRACK MEETS: Two Washington State University combined events athletes, Katie Miller (heptathlon) and Ryan Thomas (decathlon) will compete at the California Multi-Meet this Wed. and Thurs., March 23-24, at Berkeley...on the other side of the Bay the next two days, selected team members will compete at the Stanford Invitational Meet, Fri. and Sat., March 25-26, at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the Stanford University campus...this meet encompasses more than 1,000 participants in all age-ranges and ability levels...this year's collegiate competition will take place Friday night and in a compact format Saturday...results will be posted on the WSU Athletics website, www.wsucougars.com, when available after competition concludes each day.

DEAN SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN JAVELIN: Jenna Dean, a junior from Glenwood, Wash., finished second in the women's javelin at the Willie Williams's Classic after throwing a school record of 169-feet, 7 inches (51.70m)...Dean bettered her PR by 16-feet, 3 inches, to move ahead of former All-American Molly Monroe's throw of 161-4 in the WSU all-time records for the women's javelin...Monroe's mark also came in Tucson but in 2000.

NO QUALIFYING MARKS NEEDED FOR PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: This is the first year the Pacific-10 Conference will forego its own set of qualifying marks for entrance into its championships meet...instead, a maximum of 24 women and 24 men may be entered in the conference championships meet at each head coach's discretion...best marks from the outdoor season will be used to construct descending order lists, and the Pac-10 will allow the use of indoor marks for seeding into the championship heats/flights.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 32nd season with the Cougar track program; 11th year as a head coach, 10th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Kris Grimes, Mark Macdonald, and Ellannee Richardson...volunteer coaches are Michael Friedberg, Matt McGee and Andrea Thornton.
