EDMONTON, Alberta--Washington State University freshman swimmers, Andree-Anne LeRoy and Sasha Taylor, competed at the Canadian Nationals and World Aquatic Trials March 14-17, at the Kinsmen Sport Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

LeRoy, a native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada made quite a splash, grabbing three top 10 finishes at the competition. LeRoy placed seventh in the finals of both the 100 and 200-meter backstroke, events in which she holds fifth and second position respectively on WSU's all-time lists. In the championships, she clocked a time of 1 minute, 4.42 seconds in the 100 and 2:19.82 in the 200. In the 200-meter individual medley, an event in which she holds the WSU school record, LeRoy placed 10th with a time of 2:21.08. LeRoy also holds the school record in the 400 individual medley, but was unfortunately disqualified in that event at the meet.

Taylor, from Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, participated in four events during the competition. Taylor placed 19th in the 50-meter backstroke in a time of 32.80 seconds, 29th in the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.48), 34th in the 200-meter backstroke (2:18.91), and 39th in the 50-meter butterfly (31.12). Taylor currently holds fourth place on WSU's all-time list for the 200-yard backstroke with a best of 2:03.28.

LeRoy and Taylor join Melissa Hubley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada), who placed 25th in the 200-yard butterfly and 36th in the 100-yard butterfly at the NCAA Swimming Championships, as three Canadian Cougar swimmers who competed in post-season meets last week.
