SUNRIVER, Ore. - The Washington State women's golf team finished sixth at its season opener at the par 72, Woodlands Golf Course in the Northwest Invitational, Tuesday.

The Cougars improved their scoring through each round of the tournament, finishing the final round with a total of 308, the second best of the afternoon. They finished just one shot out of the Top 5.

In her first tournament as a Cougar, Ana Kostina finished in a tie for sixth, with a 54-hole total of 228 (+12). Kim Welch finished the tournament tied at 19th, marking her 20th career Top 25 finish. Welch now sits four Top 25 finishes away from tying the school record currently held by Jennifer Dodd (1997-2001).

After three rounds, Junior Maria Kostina finished with a tie at 28th, just two shots shy of a Top 25 finish. Jay Lee Longbottom tied at 36th, while Stephanie Parsley shot her best of the tournament, moving her up 15 spots, with a tie at 51st.
