AUSTIN, Texas - With one round remaining in the Challenge at Onion Creek, the Washington State women's golf team is in fifth place in the 15-team field. The Cougars collectively shot 29-over in the first two rounds Monday and trail No. 16 Texas Tech (fourth) by just three strokes.
The Cougar women were led by Mallory Kent in the first two rounds. Kent is tied for third place overall after shooting a 1-under 69 in the first round and following that with a 3-over 73 in the second round. She is 2-over going into the final round and trails Texas State's Krista Puisite, the individual leader, by just four strokes.
Emma Betland also made the top 25 for day one. She is tied for 24th at 8-over par.
Gonzaga sits atop the team leaderboard going into Tuesday's final round. The Bulldogs are 7-over par and are trailed closely by No. 36 Texas State (second, +13).
Tuesday's final round of the Challenge at Onion Creek will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Central / 6 a.m. Pacific. Live results will be available at www.golfstat.com during tournament play, and final tournament recap will be posted at www.wsucougars.com following the contest.
