Dec. 10, 2003

PULLMAN, Wash. --- Senior quarterback Matt Kegel has been cleared to play in Washington State's Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl tilt against Texas following an MRI Tuesday on his right shoulder.

The results of the examination showed that Kegel's AC joint is healing. The cartilage in his throwing shoulder showed normal wear and tear, but is not surgical. WSU's Director of Athletic Training Services, Bill Drake, also signaled a positive outlook for the fifth-year senior's rotator cuff on that shoulder, saying it showed no signs of injury.

Kegel has thrown for 2,744 yards in 2003 with 19 touchdowns. His production was limited over the final three games against UCLA, Arizona State, and Washington due to injuries, though he was the starter in each. Kegel is eighth on WSU's single season passing yardage list.
