WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - Senior Emma Stolz tallied an unassisted goal in the second half to lift Washington State over Pepperdine 1-0 in the Outriggers Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic, Saturday.

Stolz's game-winner came in the 54th minute from 22 yards out and was her third in two matches during the tournament. The Cougars (4-6-0) captured the tournament title after defeating host Hawai'i, Friday. Pepperdine (4-3-1) entered the match ranked fifth in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

"We are extremely excited to win a tournament title and the two clean sheets definitely show progress," Washington State Head Coach Matt Potter said. "I was very pleased with our energy, heart and commitment, especially considering our injuries and the fact we were playing back-to-back nights."

Pepperdine's best chance to score came just over two minutes prior to Stolz's goal when the Waves were awarded a penalty kick. Washington State goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo came up with a save on Kelsea Smith's attempt and preserved the shutout.

Washington State is off until, Friday, Oct. 1 when it returns home to play Gonzaga. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.

"With all the traveling we have done over the last month, it will be nice to get back home," Potter said. "We had to go deep in our bench this weekend and hopefully we can build on our performance of the last two nights."
