PULLMAN - The Washington State volleyball team under the direction of first year Head Coach Jen Greeny will hold a Crimson and Gray intrasquad scrimmage Tues., Aug. 16, from 7-8 p.m. in Bohler Gym. Fans will be admitted free of charge to watch the 2011 Cougars team and to see the new volleyball court design at Bohler Gym.
Greeny, a former standout volleyball player for Washington State and former assistant coach for the Cougars, will have had 16 practice sessions with the 16 student-athletes on the WSU team by the evening of the scrimmage. There are 11 newcomers on the 2011 squad and only four of the five returning players have seen court action in Cougar uniforms. The top returner is senior Meagan Ganzer, All-Pac-10 honorable mention in 2010 and the Cougars' offensive leader last season. Rachel Todorovich, a junior right side hitter, also returns with two seasons of experience including being named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman honorable mention team in 2009. Greeny's lone recruit on the squad is sophomore setter Camryn Irwin (Brush Prairie, Wash.), a transfer from the University of Oregon.
WSU opens the season at Seattle University Aug. 26 and hosts the Nike Cougar Challenge tournament Sept. 9-10 in Bohler Gym. The Pac-12 action begins Sept. 16 and 17 with UCLA and USC coming to Pullman.
