Selected members of Washington State men's and women's indoor track and field teams travel only eight miles this weekend for a pair of meets at the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome...Friday, Feb. 18, is the 30th Annual Vandal Indoor Meet which begins at noon with the throws events but racing begins at 6 p.m...Saturday, Feb. 19, is the McDonald's Open Meet with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events set to start at 10:30 a.m...results from both meets will be posted on the WSU Athletics website, www.wsucougars.com, when available after competition concludes each evening.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Four Cougars have been included in Trackwire Online's Dandy Dozen lists, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event...Darion Powell is ranked fourth in the heptathlon, Jamil Smith is 11th in the triple jump, Diana Pickler is ranked seventh in the pentathlon, and Tamara Diles is 11th in the pole vault.

TALKING TYSON: WSU redshirt sophomore Tyson Byers (Spokane Valley) vaulted right into Cougar history Feb. 12 when cleared 17-5 (5.31m) in the pole vault...this mark is third-best in WSU history and the best vault by a Washington native at WSU since 1976 - 29 years...Byers cleared 17-1 while at University High in Spokane Valley, second-best prep mark nationally in 2002.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 32nd season with the Cougar track program; 11th year as a head coach, 10th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Kris Grimes, Mark Macdonald, and Ellannee Richardson...volunteer coaches are Michael Friedberg, Matt McGee and Andrea Thornton.

WSU HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEKEND'S COMPETITION: Several Cougs reached NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks at the Holiday Inn Invite at Nampa, Idaho...James McSwain (junior, Las Vegas) won the men's 60m dash but ran a PR time of 6.72 seconds in the prelims...McSwain also clocked a 200m dash PR of 21.44 in the prelims and took 12th in the long jump (6.84m/22-5 1/4)...Jamil Smith (senior, Palmdale, Calif.) took second place in the triple jump with an NCAA PQ of 15.65m/51-4 1/14...Tamara Diles (junior, Bellevue) won the women's pole vault at 3.97m/13-0 1/4 but already has a better NCAA PQ mark...16 Cougar men and 11 women reached lifetime-bests at either the Holiday Inn or Husky Classic meets last weekend.

RESTING UP: Several prominent Cougar competitors will be resting their spikes this weekend in preparation for next weekend's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at Seattle.
