Men's Golf To Face Tough Competition at Alister Mackenzie Invitational

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team will be traveling to Fairfax, Calif., Oct. 10-11 for the Alister Mackenzie Invitational held at the par-71, 6,606 yards Meadow Club golf course...the two-day tournament will begin Monday with tee times beginning at 7:20 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes teeing off at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The Field: The 16-team field includes two teams ranked in the Golfstat top 25: Purdue(15) and Michigan (22). Also competing are Cal, Cal Poly, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Irvine, Washington State and Wichita State.

Last Time Out at the Cardinal Intercollegiate: The Cougars tallied up their second consecutive third place finish with a 3-under 861 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate held at the Cardinal Club at Simpsonville, Ky., Sept. 26-27...redshirt junior Jordan Madison and sophomore Jordan Mason both finished in the top 15, tied for ninth and 13th, respectively.

Madison Moves up in the Record Books: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison's ninth place finish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate moved him into a three-way tie for fifth in the WSU record book for total career top 10 finishes...Madison now has 7 top 10 finishes as a Cougar.

Collins Leads The Nation: Junior Chris Collins is ranked No.1 in the nation by Golfstat for total short game(.85)...as a team, the Cougars are ranked No. 36 in the nation in Golfstat's weekly poll...highest ranking for the Cougars since 2002, when they were ranked No. 32...the team is also ranked first for total short game (.670) and seventh for putts on greens in regulation.

Madison Captures Title: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison captured the 104th Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship title becoming the second consecutive Cougar to win the tournament...tournament was held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, Wash., July 11-16...Madison was paired with University of Washington's Travis Andrews for the championship round...the two exchanged the lead three times during the first round which concluded with Andrews ahead by one stroke...Madison took charge in the second round by winning four consecutive holes...his birdie on the 14th gave him a four up advantage and with both players making par on the 15th, Madison clinched the title...redshirt senior David Fern won the tournament in 2004.
