TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington State University improved 10 strokes from Saturday's second round as it concluded play at the 2011 PING/ASU Invitational Sunday, hosted by Arizona State and played on the par 72, 6,230-yard Karsten Golf Course.

In a field that featured 13 of the 17 teams ranked in Golf Week's Top 50, the Cougars shot a final-round score of 320 and finished the three-day tournament in 17th place. No. 2 UCLA recorded a four-stroke victory over No. 1 USC after a closing-round 298. The Bruins finished the event at 1-under 863, the only team to break par. USC (867), Arizona (878), Texas (880) and Stanford (886) rounded out the top five. Stanford had the low round of the day with a 296.

Freshman Mallory Kent led WSU on the final day as she shot a 4-over, 76, the best round by a Cougar during the event. Kent finished the tournament at 237 (+21), tied for 76th. Junior Kristen Allard shot a 77 Sunday, her best round of the tournament, and finished in a tie for 80th with a three-round score of 239 (+23). Sophomore Ali Thompson and senior Allison Travis each finished in a tie for 85th at 245 (+29). Thompson shot an 83 Sunday while Travis was one stroke back with an 84. Sophomore Emma Betland was forced to withdraw prior to Sunday's final round due to illness.

The Cougars are next in action April 17-19 at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, played on this same Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
