STANFORD, Calif. - Led by a top-25 effort from Tasha Browner, the Washington State women's golf team posted a 13th place finish at the NCAA West Regional at the par 72, 6,218 yard Stanford Golf Course, Saturday.

The Cougars entered the third round tied for 15th but shot an eight-over 296 over the final 18 holes to move up to 13th position in the 21-team field. The 296 total established a school record for single round team score. The previous record was 297 at the Ram Fall Classic, Sept. 11, 2001, the Cougars' first tournament of the season.

Browner carded a final round 75 to finish the 54-hole event at 226 (+10). With her top-25 effort, the senior from Tarzana, Calif., recorded the best performance of her three career NCAA Regional appearances. Browner finished 113th two years ago and tied for 68th last year.

Freshman Kim Welch turned in the low round of the day for the Cougars with a two-under par 70. Welch recorded four birdies over the final 18 holes including three on the front nine as the Sacramento, Calif., native fired a three-under 33 on the front side. Welch's round moved her from a tie for 47th at the beginning of the day to a tie for 29th position (227, +11).

Welch's freshman teammate, Jay-Lee Longbottom also turned in a solid performance with a one-over 73 to finish her three rounds at 237 (+21). Senior Jackie Stevens turned in a 78, Saturday and completed the tournament at 243 (+27). Junior Donna Bell rounded out the Cougar contingent at 255 (+39).

Arizona's Lorena Ochoa easily captured individual medalist honors after posting her third consecutive two-under par 70. Ochoa recorded a six under total of 210, five shots ahead of Pepperdine's Katherine Hull and Southern California's Mikaela Parmlid. The trio were the only players able to break par in the 107-player field.

The top eight teams and two individuals advanced from the regional to the national championships, which will be held at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash, May 21-24.
