PULLMAN, Wash. - With the 2007-08 men's basketball season set to begin, the Cougars will have a "sixth man" cheering them on at Friel Court this season.
As of Nov. 8, a total of 4,203 season tickets have been claimed, nearly 2,000 more than last season's total of 2,308, leaving only 34 season tickets remaining for sale.
Individual game tickets are selling at a brisk pace as well. Tonight's Eastern Washington game and the regular season-ending contest versus Washington, March 8, are sold out. Many other games are close to being sold out; for example, as of Nov. 9, 320 tickets are left for USC (Feb. 9), 390 tickets remain for UCLA (Feb. 7), 659 tickets are left for Oregon (Jan. 20), and 662 tickets are left for the Feb. 23 Arizona game.
"Obviously, we are overwhelmed by the increased support that our fans have shown," WSU Director of Ticket Sales Dan Meyer said. "Coach Tony Bennett and his staff have put together a program that people want to support because they do things the right way.
"We hear from our fans when they call in for season tickets, `Win or lose, this is a fun team to watch,' so I think this is only a beginning for Cougar Basketball, rather than the peak of what can be accomplished here," Meyer added.
