THIS WEEK: Washington State wraps up its spring soccer schedule with a Mom's Weekend match-up against Idaho Saturday, April 8...game begins at 10:30 a.m. at Lower Soccer Field (in case of inclement weather, match will be played at Rogers Field).
HEAD COACH Matt Potter SAYS: "We have had four great spring games that have offered differing circumstances for our team. This weekend's game is the last opportunity for us to perform in a full-team setting prior to our fall season. I am sure everyone is excited, not only to perform, but with all the excitement of mum's weekend, it should add to the weekend festivities.
"The University of Idaho is a program making great strides under the tutelage of coach Pete Showler which is making the Palouse a competitive area for women's soccer along with Gonzaga and ourselves. It's a great opportunity to see some talented young women play a great game and we are hopeful for a large and enthusiastic crowd."
LAST TIME OUT: Cougars faced off against the 2005 NCAA Champion Portland Pilots March 30, and the Under-20 U.S. Women's National Team April 1, in Portland, Ore...WSU fell to Portland 2-0 and was blanked 3-0 by the U-20 National Team.
POTTER SAYS: "Any time you have an opportunity to play the national champions (Portland) and the U.S. U-20 National Team, it is an opportunity to challenge yourself against the best. We are grateful to Garrett (Smith) and the University of Portland and to Tim (Schulz) and U.S Soccer for the opportunity to play. The taste of defeat is never a good one but the lessons we learned are invaluable. In both situations we got to see, assess and reinforce what we have, what we need to continue developing, and ultimately, what we need to change in order to compete at the elite level."
2006 SEVEN-A-SIDE CLASSIC: Cougar soccer will host the seventh annual 7-A-Side Classic April 22-23...tournament features seven-member teams from NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA programs as well as established club teams...competition consists of 30-minute, short-field games to be play at Roger's Field and Martin Stadium...for more information, visit the women's soccer page at www.wsucougars.com.
