LOS ANGELES - Washington State University basketball senior Robbie Cowgill has been named the Toyo Tire Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, league officials announced Wednesday at the opening round of the Pac-10 Tournament.

A native of Austin, Texas, Cowgill has excelled on the court, in the class room and in the community. The four-year starter is averaging 7.2 points and 5.1 rebounds this season, starting 29 of the team's 30 games this season and earned Pacific-10 All-Defensive Honorable Mention accolades. As a senior he scored a career-high 18 points in front of a home-state crowd at Baylor Nov. 30. He followed that performance up with his lone double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds at then-No. 19 Gonzaga Dec. 5.

A management and operations major, Cowgill is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He has been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team the past two years, the WSU Athletics All-Academic Team all four years, and is a two-time Cougar Pride Academic Salute and WSU Libraries Scholar-Athlete of the Week honoree. An honors college enrollee, Cowgill has a 3.36 grade point average and will graduate in May.

The Pac-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year, presented by Toyo TiresTM is a commemorative award presented throughout the entire academic season to recognize outstanding scholar-athletes in each of the Pac-10's 22-sports. Toyo® will donate $1,000 to the scholarship funds of the institution's athletic department of each winner in recognition of their accomplishments.

Cowgill and the third-seeded Cougars will open up the Pac-10 Tournament as they face sixth-seeded Oregon, Thursday, March 13 at 6:04 p.m. at the Staples Center.
