Cream of the Crop: The SDCC field features all six Pacific-10 varsity eight crews ranked in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/U.S. Rowing Top-20 poll...No. 1 California will be competing in the A.W. Coggeshall Cup.

The 2007 SDCC: WSU advanced the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight to the grand finals...varsity eight went on to finish sixth in theWhittier Cup Grand Final ...second varsity eight placed fifth in the Hungness Trophy Grand Final...novice eight finished sixth in the Perpetual Trophy Grand Final.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the SDCC: The San Diego Crew Classic will be our first race so we're excited to finally be able to compete. The field is very strong and we're just excited to get rolling. Everyone in our heat is fast. Since we haven't raced anyone yet we're going to have to race really hard.

The SDCC: April of 1973 featured the inaugural San Diego Crew Classic...event was created by two local rowing clubs, San Diego Rowing Club and the ZLAC Rowing Club for women...first competition featured nine schools...now considered one of the premier regattas in the United States...rowers will follow a 2,000 meter course along Mission Bay beginning near Sea World and ending at Crown Points Shores...the event attracts more than 3,500 athletes from more than 100 clubs across the United States and has been considered a competitive site for both future and current Olympians...more information can be found at www.crewclassic.org.

Split Squads Compete: WSU will send the second novice eight and third varsity eight to Seattle Saturday, April 5, for the Husky Invite...last year's competition at the Montlake Cut was highlighted by a novice four first place finish and a novice eight second place finish.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the Husky Invite: It's really great that they will be able to get some racing in. All of Washington's 3V and 4V athletes will be there and since there are no four boat races at San Diego, it's a good opportunity for them to get some good competition while we get some good competition in San Diego.

Last Week: The Cougars were scheduled to race the Gonzaga University Bulldogs Saturday, March 29, but races were cancelled due to inclement weather.

Coaching Staff: Jane LaRiviere enters her sixth year as the WSU head women's rowing coach...Cougars earned a program-best fourth place at the NCAA National Championships in 2006 under LaRiviere...she is joined by assistant Tara Medina, novice coach Christina Meyer and graduate assistant Paul Hawksworth...Medina is in her second year as an assistant...she joined WSU women's rowing after coaching one year at Michigan...Meyer is entering her third year as the novice coach...Hawksworth is a second-year graduate assistant.
