Men's Golf Squad Shoots Way Into Top Five At Wolf Pack Classic

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Sophomores Matt McGeeney (San Pedro, Calif.) and Jon Reehoorn (Burlington, Wash.) are both in the top 30 individually and have helped WSU to a fifth place standing after two rounds at the 23rd annual Wolf Pack Classic, hosted by the University of Nevada.

McGeeney (74-73--147) shot a career-best 73 in the second round and is 17th on the leader board. This is only the sophomore's second collegiate tournament. Reehoorn (71-77--148) shot an even 71 in the first round, but ended up six-over for the day and finished 27th. Junior Jeremy Taylor (73-76--149) and freshman Dustin White (75-74--149) ended the first two rounds tied at 36th.

Boise State (573) positioned four golfers in the top 20 and leads the tournament after the 36 holes. Fresno State (577) is four strokes back and the University of Portland (579) is 11-over par and six strokes back. Long Beach State (582) and Washington State round out the top five in the 18-team field.

Portland's Ryan Nelson posted a pair of 69s to claim the individual lead at four under, two strokes ahead of Boise State's Jory Russell and Fresno State's Danny Paniccia.

The tournament is being played at the brand new Silver Oaks Golf Course and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday morning at 9 am.
