MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho volleyball team achieved revenge Friday night before 1,317 fans at Memorial Gym with a 3-0 win over Washington State, stopping the Cougars' win-streak at nine.
The Vandals (1-9) won their first match of the season, defeating WSU (12-2) 30-23, 30-20, 30-28.
"I want to give Idaho all the credit because they came out and played very, very well both offensively and defensively. They had a great game plan against us and did a super job tonight," WSU Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. "The errors they were making the other night in Bohler Gym, none of that was present tonight. We will take the weekend off, re-group and go back at it again; we're looking forward to playing Stanford and Cal next weekend."
Kelly Rosin led the Cougars with 15 kills (.483) while Brittany Johnson added 11 kills. Kelly Hyder had 12 digs and Tara West had a match-high five blocks. Corina Beyer had 33 assists as the Cougs hit .174 on the night.
The Vandals' Haley Larson had a match-high 16 kills (.394) while Erin Curtis, Debbie Pederson and Sarah Loney each contributed four blocks as Idaho out-blocked WSU eight to five. Kelsey Yonker had 12 digs and Saxony Brown had 28 assists. Curtis also nailed four service aces. The Vandals hit .279 on the night.
Washington State begins Pacific-10 Conference action next week, hosting No. 7 Stanford Thursday, Sept. 21, and No. 10 California Friday, Sept. 22, at Bohler Gym.
