ATHENS, Ga. - Washington State's Erin McCleave earned All-American honors Saturday, swimming to an 11th place finish in the 1650 freestyle in the final day of racing at the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Rutherglen, Australia native's performance (16:19.62) marks the second highest Cougar individual finish at an NCAA Championship and makes her just the third swimmer in WSU history to earn All-American recognition. Lindsay Henahan (100 butterfly) earned the honor in 2003 while Erin Eldridge was a two-time honoree in 1999 (100 and 200 breaststroke) and earned a third All-American award in 2000 (100 breaststroke).
Senior Jane Copland also made an appearance for WSU Saturday, posting a 28th place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.31. Washington State finished 40th in the overall team standings with six points.
