EAST MEADOW, New York -- - Washington State University sophomore Melissa Hubley finished 25th in the 200 butterfly Saturday at the NCAA Women's Swimming Championships, missing a spot in the finals by eight spots. The top 16 out of 37 competitors will advance to the events' finals.
The Cougar's only qualifier to this year's NCAA meet entered the competition ranked 23rd after posting her best mark and a school record at 2:00.36 during the Pacific-10 Conference championships two weeks ago. Had Hubley, from Nova Scotia, equaled her best time, she would have finished 14th in the preliminary heats at the Nassau Aquatic Center.
Hubley's performance came a day after she finished 36th in the shorter 100 yard butterfly, posting a :56.10 time.
