COUGAR VOLLEYBALL ON THE ROAD FOR BAY AREA PAIR: The No. 25 Washington State volleyball team (14-1, 3-1) takes to the road this weekend for a pair of ranked Pac-10 teams...WSU plays at No. 7 Stanford (9-4, 2-1) Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion, and meets No. 15 California (8-5, 1-2) Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Haas Pavilion...both matches can be followed on GameTracker online, or by listening to the radio broadcast online or in the Pullman area (see below)...Saturday's match will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet California...check with your television provider for the channel.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Head Coach Andrew Palileo is in his second season at WSU after a highly successful tenure at South Dakota State...Palileo has a 24-20 overall record at WSU, and a 13-year career record of 254-161...associate head coach Brian Lamppa and assistant coach TeAna Tramel complete the coaching staff...Kara Kiefer is the coordinator of operations.

COUGS REACH NATIONAL RANKING: Washington State is ranked 25th in the Oct. 5 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Div. I Coaches Top 25 Poll...the last time WSU was ranked was the 2003 preseason poll (19th)...the Pac-10 schools ranked this week include No. 3 Washington, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Oregon, No. 13 USC, No. 15 California, No. 16 UCLA, No. 22 Arizona...Utah was ranked No. 17 when Washington State swept the Utes Sept. 5...also receiving votes in this week's poll is Oregon State (t-No. 27th)...defending national champion Penn State is ranked No. 1...for the weekly poll, go to www.avca.org.

BUSH BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR MATCH DIGS: Libero Oceana Bush (freshman, Spokane, Wash.) had a school record 39 digs in WSU's 3-2 win over Arizona State Oct. 3 in Pullman...she wiped out the school record of 35 digs set by Jalen Pendon in 2005, ironically, also against Arizona State (Oct. 27, 2005 in Tempe)...the 5-5 Bush played outside hitter on her state championship high school team, Lewis & Clark HS...she is averaging 6.00 dps in Pac-10 matches and 4.85 dps for the season.

NOTEWORTHY FACTS ABOUT THE 2009 WASHINGTON STATE VOLLEYBALL TEAM:  NCAA Statistics (for matches played through 10/4) - Renee Bordelon's 11.87 assists per set is 4th-best nationally; Cassie Robbins is 17th with 1.38 blocks per set; WSU team is 6th in kills per set (14.60), 8th in assists per set (13.455, and 13th in hitting percentage (.270)  Trio of Pac-10 wins - WSU's 3 Pac-10 wins in 2009 equals the Cougs' total conference wins in 2008  Eight straight set points - In the 3-0 win over No. 18 Arizona, WSU came from a 24-19 deficit in the third set to win 26-24  That's service - Senior Jackie Albright served the set/match-winning ace against both Arizona and Arizona State Oct. 2&3  Five years between wins over ranked Pac-10 teams - Before the Oct. 2 sweep of No. 18 Arizona, the last time WSU defeated a ranked team in Pacific-10 Conference action was in November 2004 (3-2 win over No. 6 USC in Pullman)  Five-set matches?
