PULLMAN, Wash. -- - Washington State University's first football schedule of the new millennium (2000) features six home games, including the season opener against the defending Pacific-10 Conference champion Stanford Cardinal, WSU Athletic Director Rick Dickson and head football coach Mike Price announced today.

Also on tap at WSU's Martin Stadium will be the Idaho Vandals Sept. 23, Boise State Oct. 7, Arizona State Oct. 21, Oregon Nov. 4 and the annual Apple Cup, with Washington Nov. 18.

"Opening our season at home against the Pac-10 champion (Stanford) is a tremendous challenge, but also will get our players' and coaches' attention right from the start of spring drills in March," Price said. "I like our non-conference schedule and I think the fact we never have to play back-to-back games on the road is very beneficial."

WSU's slate includes non-conference games at home with Idaho and Boise State and one road game, Utah at Salt Lake City. "I think our players will want to atone for losses last year to both Idaho and Utah," Price said. "I know our staff is going to do everything we can to reverse those results."

In conference action, WSU will play at California, Arizona, Oregon State and USC.

"We believe this provides another exciting six game home schedule for Cougar fans," Dickson said. "With four of the first seven games at Martin Stadium this should offer some competitive advantage and good weather opportunities for traveling fans"

Idaho will be WSU's opponent for next fall's annual Homecoming game, while Arizona State's visit to Pullman has been designated Dads' Day.

Season tickets are now on sale, according to Janet Johnson, WSU athletic ticket director. Cougar fans can call 1-800-Go-COUGS (option 3) or 509-335-9626.

The six-game home package is $129 per reserve seat, or $265 for a season family plan, according to Johnson. Also available now is a two-game combination for $36 each, which includes any two WSU home games except Washington.

With the exception of WSU-Washington game, single game tickets will be available beginning Aug. 21. As of Sept. 5 fans can order a two-pack that includes the Husky game for $58. Single-game Washington tickets, if available, will go on sale Oct. 2.

WSU's single game reserve seats will be $20 for each of the first five games and $40 for the Washington game. General admission tickets for individual games will be $10 for adults, $5 for youth and $25 for a family plan of four.
