USC Futbol Classic Preview Get Acrobat Reader

THIS WEEK
The Washington State (2-0-0) soccer team faces a pair of foes when it takes to road for the first time in the 2012 season...competing in the USC Futbol Classic, the Cougars will come face-to-face with San Diego and Duke in Los Angeles...at McAlister Field, Washington State will take on the Toreros, Friday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m., followed by the Blue Devils, Sunday, Sept. 2 at 11:30 a.m.

LAST WEEK
Washington State put on an impressive performance at Lower Soccer Field, downing Boise State 6-0 in its second straight shutout victory...Cougars' game-winning goal came in just the third minute of play when junior Rachael Doyle headed the ball past the goal keeper off of a corner kick by senior Brandi Vega...junior Micaela Castain led Washington State with two goals...freshman Kourtney Guetlein picked up her first-career goal and assist...Vega and sophomore Beau Bremer accounted for the remaining goals for the Cougars.

DOYLE NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Doyle, a star defensive player who has helped the Cougars kick off the 2012 season with two shutouts, was named the WSUCougars.com Student-Athlete of the Week...in addition to her contributions on defense, Doyle picked up a goal and an assist during Washington State's victory over Boise state.

WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH Keidane McAlpine
Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine is in his first year as head coach at Washington State, and his sixth year overall as a head coach...in the 2012 season, McAlpine has claimed two victories in as many games, making his record in Pullman 2-0-0...his career record is 42-48-11.

COUGARS RECEIVING VOTES
Washington State received votes in the latest Soccer Times top-25 poll.

STINGY DEFENSE
Washington State opened the 2012 season with two-consecutive shutouts...Cougars and No. 1 ranked UCLA are the only two Pac-12 schools who have not been scored on this season...goalkeeper Gurveen Clair, a redshirt-sophomore, has a career goals against average of 0.69, a school-best for Washington State...Cougars have allowed only four shots on goal this season.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO
The Toreros are currently 2-2-0 in 2012 and are 0-1-0 away from home...San Diego received votes in both the NSCAA and the Soccer Times national polls...junior forward Emily Dillon has a team-leading two goals and four points this season.

SERIES WITH THE TOREROS
Washington State won the only previous meeting between the schools...Cougars downed San Diego 2-1 at home during the 1994 season...the two Washington State goals came one minute apart in the second half thanks to Robyn Smith and Dana DePonzi.

ABOUT DUKE
The Blue Devils are 2-1-0 this season...Duke is ranked in all three national polls, coming in No.4 in both Soccer America and Soccer Times, and No. 6 in NSCAA...seven-different Blue Devils have scored a goal this season, including five players who have scored multiple goals.

SERIES WITH THE BLUE DEVILS
