EUGENE, Ore. - After a full day of battling the rain and wind senior golfer Chris Collins sits among the top-25 golfers after the first day of play at the Oregon Duck Invitational, held at the par-72, 7,033 yard Eugene Country Club golf course.

Collins showed great consistency in both rounds of play, recording a first round score of 73 and a second round score of 74, giving him a score of 147 (+3) for the first day of play. Collins currently sits in a four way tie for 13th.

In the ranks behind Collins is freshman Nick Grigsby, who shot a first round score of 79 before tallying an improved score of 72 in the second round of play. Grigsby completed the first day with a score of 151 (+7). He will begin the second day of play in a tie for 38th.

"Grigsby played very well in the second round," said Head Golf Coach Walt Williams. "He showed improvement and overall played very good."

Freshman Kevin Tucker began the day with a solid first round score of 73. Tucker dropped to a score of 79 in the second round and finished with a total score of 152 (+8) in a tie for 46th. In a tie for 52nd after the first day of competition are freshman Austin Hurt and redshirt senior Jordan Madison. Both golfers finished with scores of 154 (+10).

Sitting in 59th place is sophomore golfer Max Reinland. Posting a first round score of 79 and an improved score of 77 in the second round, Reinland finished the day with a total score of 156 (+12). Despite the Cougars' 11th place team standing, Coach Williams feels improvements are being made.

"We shot a 303 in the first round and a 295 in the second round, so we are definitely improving," Williams said. "All the players are showing improvement and they played through some tough conditions today on a tough golf course. With such a young group, this experience of playing against good teams is important."

The Cougars will complete the third round of play tomorrow morning with a scheduled start time of 8 a.m.
