BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Devanei Hampton scored 26 and Ashley Walker had 25 as No. 20 California (19-6, 9-6) got back on track by beating Washington State 72-45 at Haas Pavilion on Saturday.
It was the second time this season that both Walker and Hampton had double-doubles - it was Walker's ninth of the season, and Hampton's sixth.
Colleen Betteridge led Washington State (5-20, 1-14) with 11 points. Marisa Stotler, who played only eight minutes in the first half, finished with nine points. Kate Benz picked up six rebounds and is now only 11 rebounds shy of becoming WSU's all-time rebound leader.
In the first half, both teams were scoreless until the 17:47 mark when California scored the first two points of the game. The Golden Bears jumped out to an 11-4 lead before Katie Appleton brought the Cougars to within four with a successful three-point shot.
The Cougars capitalized off the three-point shot in the first half, sinking 4-of-8 attempts while California was 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. California, however, earned 17 trips to the free throw line, making 13 attempts. California's Ashley Walker went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the first half. WSU went to the line a mere four times, but made three attempts.
Washington State returns to Pullman to host archrival Washington Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on FSN Northwest.
