Another bittersweet weekend as we faced the Arizona schools. We started out on Friday against ASU and we fought back twice to tie the game. The two goals of ours were spectacular. However, we ended up slipping up with about seven minutes to go and fell behind. We fought hard, but we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net at the end of the game and we fell short. We knew that we had to get it right for Sunday when we played Arizona.

The Arizona game was an even match and both teams played well. We went down a goal in the second half, but that didn't stop us. We pushed and pushed and we didn't stop. In the last ten seconds of the game we got a throw in their corner, and Angela (who has a massive brace on her shoulder) threw the ball in to Alix, who attempted to turn and shoot with 2 seconds left. As she turned she got fouled and we got awarded a penalty kick. Who better to take in than Carmen. She was so composed, so confident even with the Arizona girls yelling at her. She just put that ball away and we headed into overtime. There was no doubt that we were the aggressors in the first overtime, but we couldn't score. Heading into the second over time we just kept pushing and ended up getting a free kick about 30 yards out. Once again, Carmen stepped up to the plate and put the back of the net. It wasn't just any old shot. It was an unbelievable, far post, upper-V....are you serious? The keeper didn't even move! It was gorgeous. The celebration that followed was even better, because we knew we deserved the victory. Some people may call it luck, but we know that we created our own luck and we put ourselves in a position that we could be successful. We came together and proved it to ourselves that we can do anything as long as we put the effort in and work together and for each other.

This weekend we head to southern California to play USC and UCLA. They are both very talented teams. We know that we have to apply what we have worked on in practice this week and we need to stick to our game plan. We can't wait for some great weather, but most importantly two awesome and challenging games.
