BERKELEY, Calif. - Ifeoma Onumonu scored a pair of second half goals to rally No. 18 California past visiting Washington State 3-2 in Pac-12 women's soccer at Goldman Field, Sunday.
Onumonu's goals came at 63:54 and 66:23 as the Golden Bears (14-3-0, 7-1-0 Pac-12) strengthened their hold on third place in the Pac-12.
"We fell asleep a couple times and lost track of the speed they had and the next things you know, it's in the net," Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. "We fought down from a goal early, so there are some positives to build on, but it was a tough way to lose."
The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead just five seconds into the match when Emi Lawson launched a ball from midfield just after kickoff that resulted in her second goal of the season.
Washington State netted the equalizer at 25:13 on Nicole Setterlund's first goal of the season. Mesa Owsley served a free kick into the box from the right and Setterlund finished after a scrum in front of the net.
