Cougar Swimming Sweeps Pentathlon at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Washington State swept the top spot in all five events of a swimming pentathlon against New Mexico, Jan. 7.

Michaela Ahlin won the opening event, the 50 fly, in 25.94. The Cougars also took the third through 10th spots, led by Talor Whitaker in 26.43.

WSU recorded a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 back. Rugile Mileisyte led the way in 27.43, followed by Ahlin (28.21) and Jennifer Dean 28.34.

Jessie Craig captured the 50 breast in 30.10 to lead the Cougars' sweep of the top four spots. Whitaker was second (30.75) with Shawna Keller (30.75) third and Mileisyte (31.15) placed fourth.

The Cougars took the top-six places in the 50 free. Mileisyte led the way in 23.87 with Evelina Bieleckaite (24.39), Whitaker (24.40), Jenna Bekker (24.57), Emma Neely (24.77) and Dean (25.01) rounding out the top six.

In the 200 individual medley, the top nine times were turned in by Cougars. Whitaker won the event in 2:09.63 with Ahlin (2:10.59) second and Keller (2:12.22) third. Shelbi Luchini (2:12.30) was fourth and Mileisyte notched a fifth-place finish in 2:14.95.

The Cougars return to action against Seattle in the Emerald City, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m.
