PULLMAN, Wash. - A trip to Arizona and Mom's Weekend matches at Lower Soccer Field highlight the 2009 Washington State women's soccer spring schedule, Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter announced, Wednesday.
Washington State will take on BYU at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7 at a tournament hosted by Arizona State. The Cougars will play Northern Arizona at 12:30 p.m. the same day with a consolation or final match to follow that evening.
Friday, March 27, Washington State will travel across the border to face Idaho. Match time is still to be determined.
During Mom's Weekend in Pullman, the Cougars host Gonzaga at noon, Saturday, April 4 and Idaho at noon, Sunday, April 5.
"Our goal is to challenge our players during the spring," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "We will play three great games in Arizona, as well as some regional rivals in Pullman. We also have the luxury of adding one more event."
Potter added, "I have been pleased and impressed with the commitment, work ethic, and attitude of our student-athletes so far this spring. Having everyone return from last year's NCAA squad allows us to firmly imprint our system and style and allows all our players adequate time to express themselves. We have been pushing the group physically as we look to build on the success of last fall.
"The weekend in Arizona gives us a chance to see how that work is paying off and I am sure the players are looking forward to playing against other teams rather than each other. It will be a great indicator as to how our team is progressing toward the summer and next fall."
