KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Washington State University men's golf team placed tied for first at the Cuthbert Cup after inclement weather cut the tournament short, Tuesday.

The Cougars held a tie for the lead heading into the third and final day of competition with three individuals in the top 25. However, due to a thunderstorm late in the afternoon, a tiebreaker using the second round results of the fifth golfer from the top two teams determined the winner of the Cuthbert Cup. The men fired a two-day total of 579 (+3).

Freshman Nick Ellis finished tied for second after two rounds of competition and ended the tournament shooting a 3-under par 141 to lead the Cougars. Ellis' second place finish marks the second top 10 and fourth top 25 finish of his young career. Ellis also leads the Cougars in both categories this season.

Sophomore Kevin Tucker cruised up the leaderboard in the second round and fired a 3-under 69 to move up 11 spots, Monday. With the cancellation, Tucker finished tied for sixth with a total score of 143 and recorded his second top 10 and fifth top 25 finish of his career.

Sophomore Nick Grigsby also improved in the second round of play to finish in tie for 16th (146). Grigsby earned his seventh career top 25 finish which is second among all active Cougars.
