PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University junior Jayson Miller has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week following his performance last Sunday at No. 15 Oregon State, it was announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen.
Miller, a left-handed pitcher out of Richland, Wash., picked up his fourth win of the season in a series-clinching victory against the defending national champion Beavers. Miller went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts, before exiting at the start of the ninth inning. The Beavers hit .154 (4-26) against him and only twice had runners past second base and at one point, he retired 11 of 12 Beavers. For the season Miller is 4-2 with a 3.26 ERA.
Over his last two games, he won against Stanford May 7, Miller is 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings pitched. He has recorded nine strikeouts against three walks while allowing just 10 hits in that span.
WSU hosts UCLA in a three-game series beginning the Friday at Bailey-Brayton Field. Friday's contest will be televised by FSN Northwest with a scheduled 3:30 p.m. start. The Cougars enter the contest with a 25-23 record, 8-13 in Pac-10 play, while the Bruins are 28-22, 12-6 in conference action.
