LOS ANGELES - Tim Murphsy pitched shutout ball for seven innings to lead UCLA to a 10-0 victory over Washington State in Pacific-10 baseball at Jackie Robinson Stadium, Friday night.

Murphy (4-6) gave up two hits, walked three and struck out eight in handing the Cougars (28-23, 6-13 Pac-10) their first shutout loss in 147 games.

"Tonight we were the most noncompetitive I've seen us at the plate," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "Coach (Travis) Jewett gave our guys a game plan and they did not execute it."

Blair Dunlap staked UCLA (27-23, 9-10 Pac-10) to a 1-0 lead with a home run in the first inning off Matt Way (3-4). Brent Dean added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to put the Bruins on top 2-0.

UCLA put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning. Cody Decker delivered the big blow with a grand slam off reliever Steve Kost.

The teams meet again Saturday at 1:36 p.m. in a game televised by FOX Sports Net.
