The Cougars trailed 6-3 in the eighth inning when Stefan Bailie hit a blast over the wall with two outs to record his eighth home run of the year to cut Gonzaga's lead to two runs. WSU was able to send the game to extra innings as Brent Robertson drove in Justin Williams and Bookie Gates with a single to centerfield to tie the game at six.

Right fielder Mike Knight capped off his three-for-five day with a single in the 10th, but the Cougars were retired on a double play and a fly ball before Munhall came to the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Cayetano got into trouble in the fifth inning as Gonzaga second baseman Eric Rodland reached base after being hit by a pitch and later scored off a Barry Matthews double increased the Bulldogs' lead to 5-3. Davis relieved Caytano with two outs after Gonzaga scored another run to boost their lead to three runs, but Davis kept the Bulldogs scoreless until the last at bat.
