SEATTLE - Cougar Erin Eldridge won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events against rival Washington prior to the Apple Cup football game at Husky Pool Saturday.

Eldridge, a senior All-American, posted a time of 1 minute, 4.97 seconds in the 100 and a 2:20.43 in the 200. In last night's competition at the King Aquatic Center in Federal Way, her short-course meter times in both breaststroke events qualified for the Olympic Trials.

"It's nice to make them in season," said the Kirkland native on her Olympic Trial cuts. "It's one of those times where you have to push yourself. We all personally did well at this meet."

WSU relays stepped it up once again opening the dual meet with a win in the 200-medley relay. Kelley Miedema (Cape Town, South Africa), Eldridge, Melissa Hubley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada) and Lindsay Henahan (Rochester, N.Y.) combined for a time of 1:49.04.

"We had some ups-and-downs, but had a lot of breakthroughs," WSU assistant coach Alicia Hicken said. "We saw swimmers come back from Friday's meet with some good swims today and good leadership.

"This is a good meet where it's all about racing. I think we are on track to doing well this season, because we have the talent to do so. We use this meet as a stepping stone to get to the Pac-10s and get better."

There are no breaks in the Cougars' schedule. They will continue to train up until Tuesday of Thanksgiving Break to prepare for the Husky Invitational December 2-5 in Federal Way.

"We are going to get back into it (swimming) and start some good training," Hicken said. "At this time of the year, it is good to evaluate their swimming. We will go back to Pullman and get to work."
