Arizona Grabs Day One Lead at Pacific-10 Women's Golf Championships

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Lorena Ochoa, the nation's top-ranked player, shot par during day one of the Pacific-10 Women's Golf Championships to help stake Arizona (293, +5) to the tournament lead, Monday at the Walla Walla Country Club.

Ochoa's 72 is tied for third with Arizona State's Jimin Kang, one shot back of UCLA's Yvonne Choe and USC's Mikaela Parmlid.

A pair of Wildcats, Cristina Baena and Laura Myerscough, are tied for fifth at one over 73. Arizona's leads USC (297, +9) by four strokes. California (299, +11), Stanford (300, +12) and UCLA (301, +13) round out the top five.

Kim Welch was Washington State's best performer at five over 77 to tie for 25th. The Cougars (319, +31) are in eighth place ahead of Oregon State (320, +32) and Oregon (+331, +43).

The tournament resumes Tuesday with second round action beginning at 9 a.m.
