PULLMAN, Wash. - Jared Prince collected three hits and three RBI in the nightcap to lead Washington State past UC Davis 7-5 and complete a doubleheader sweep in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Saturday. The Cougars won the opener 6-4.

In the second game, Washington State (18-11) trailed 5-4 before tallying twice in the sixth and once in the eighth for a come-from-behind win. In the sixth, Matt Fanelli led off with a double and scored on a two-out infield single by Jim Murphy that tied the game. Prince followed with a single to score Paul Gran, who had walked, for what proved to be the winning run. Prince added an insurance run with a run-scoring single in the eighth.

Andrew Davis (3-2) earned the victory by retiring all 11 men he faced in relief, including four strikeouts. Jeremy McChesney (1-1) suffered the loss for the Aggies (19-10).

"We had some opportunities offensively and let them off the hook, but we showed some resiliency to come back and win two games," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "Our bullpen was really, really good today."

Trailing 2-0, WSU scored four times in the second inning. Prince led off with his third home run of the season. Greg Lagreid was hit by a pitch and Alex Burg singled to put runners at first and second. Riley Tubbs followed with a bunt single and all three runners advanced when pitcher Trevor Fox's throw to first was errant. Fanelli followed with a RBI-single and two batters later Travis Coulter capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.

In the opener, the Cougars scored three times in the sixth to erase a 4-3 deficit and rally for victory. With one out, Garry Kuykendall was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a Shea Vucinich single. Coulter was hit by a pitch and Lagreid grounded out to score pinch runner Fanelli tying the game 4-4. After Gran walked, Jim Murphy singled in a pair of runs to put WSU on top 6-4.

The rally made a winner out of Jayson Miller (4-1). The southpaw pitched seven innings, gave up four runs, three earned, struck out three, and did not walk a batter.

The Cougars scored three times in the first on a RBI-ground out by Murphy and run-scoring singles by Scott Suttmeier and Burg. UC Davis took a 4-3 lead with a pair of runs in the second and two more in the fourth.
