PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State freshman Aneta Miksovska captured MVP honors for the 2015-16 season to highlight the Cougars' season-ending tennis banquet Monday evening.
In addition to team MVP honors, Miksovska also captured the Newcomer of the Year Award while senior Trang Huynh received the Academic Excellence Award. Senior team captain Lize Leenknecht was given the Coaches Award and freshman Barbora Michalkova was the recipient of the Strength and Conditioning Award.
A native of Stramberk, Czech Republic, Miksovska completed her freshman year with a 31-11 singles record, tying the freshman single-season record for wins and tying for the fifth-most wins in a season at WSU. She posted a team-best 19-4 dual-match record and led WSU in Pac-12 conference wins.
Huynh, from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, went 32-16 in her lone season in Pullman, including 17-8 in dual matches. She posted a 4.00 grade point average, was a member of the WSU Athletics All-Academic Team and the WSU President's Honor Roll. She is a psychology major with a minor in biology, and plans to attend dental school following her graduation this December.
Leenknecht, from Heule, Belgium, became WSU's first three-time team captain under Head Coach Lisa Hart. She finished her career with 77 singles victories, tied for 10th on WSU's all-time list. She becomes only the second player to receive the Coaches Award three times earlier in the day was named the Northwest Region ITA/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship & Leadership Award winner for the second-straight year.
Michalkova, from As, Czech Republic, won 20 singles record during her first campaign, playing mainly at the No. 3 singles position. She opened the spring season with a season-best four-match winning streak and also went 24-10 in doubles play throughout the season.
The Cougars completed their 2016 season with a 17-9 record, the sixth-straight season WSU posted a winning record.
