SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington State sophomore Donika Bashota capped her 2016 season by being named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
A native of Lidkoping, Sweden, Bashota ended her season last month with a 36-8 singles record, setting WSU's single-season record for singles victories. Last month she posted back-to-back victories over No. 12 Klara Fabikova of California and No. 78 Caroline Doyle of Stanford, earning Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. The following week she reached a high of No. 67 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings, the highest of her career.
Bashota began the season by winning her first 14 matches and reached the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional last October. She then won her first 14 dual matches of the season, finishing with a 19-6 dual-match record.
She is the first Cougar to earn second-team honors since Liudmila Vasilieva in 2012.
