PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Director of Athletics Bill Moos has extended head women’s soccer coach Todd Shulenberger’s contract through June 30, 2020, Moos announced Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not announced.
“Todd, and his staff, did a tremendous job this past season,” said Moos. “Keeping Cougar soccer in the national spotlight, competing for conference championships, and participating in the post-season are the goals at Washington State. As I’ve said many times, WSU should be a destination for coaches, not a stepping stone. We are fortunate to have Todd leading our program for the coming years and I’m excited about its continued growth.”
In his first season at the helm of the WSU soccer program, Shulenberger guided the Cougars to a 14-6-0 record and their fifth-straight postseason berth, a first for the program. The Cougars finished third in the Pac-12 Conference, going undefeated on the road in conference play and 9-1 overall. Shulenberger and WSU reached 10 wins in just 12 matches, the fastest a WSU team has accomplished the feat. The Cougars boasted a high-powered offense under Shulenberger, netting 34 goals in the season.
“I want to thank Bill Moos and Anne McCoy for their commitment and trust in me,” Shulenberger said. “We are looking forward to taking this WSU soccer program deeper in the future. With our success this season, and the new soccer facilities being built in the coming months, I think there’s a lot of excitement around this Cougar soccer program.”
Shulenberger and the Cougars placed eight student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, and earned four Pac-12 All-Conference honors, including a first-team honor for senior Kourtney Guetlein. The 2015 senior class went down in history as one of the most successful in WSU history, having led the Cougars to 50 wins over a four-year span.
