Washington State soccer begins its 2014 campaign, Friday, Aug. 22 hosting TCU at renovated Lower Soccer Field…facility underwent a $2.4 million budgeted facelift in the offseason…match is scheduled for 5 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks…Anne Marie Anderson (play-by-play) and Temryss Lane (analyst) call the action…Cougar roster consists of 17 returnees, including 14 letterwinners, and eight newcomers, including seven freshmen and one transfer…live stats will be available at www.wsucougars.com.

WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH STEVE NUGENT

Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent is in his first year at Washington State, and his fourth year overall as a head coach...Nugent was 30-23-6 at UNC Greensboro from 2011-13.

COUGAR OPENERS

Washington State is 20-4-1 all-time in season openers, including 8-1-0 when playing its first match at home…Cougars are 10-3-0 when playing their first match in Washington and 17-6-2 in home openers.

WASHINGTON STATE IN THE RANKINGS

The Cougars are the first team receiving votes in the NSCAA preseason Top 25…Washington State is No. 24 in the College Sports Madness poll.

COUGARS SEEK RETURN TO POSTSEASON

Washington State has made three-straight NCAA Championship appearances, a first for the program…Cougars have made five trips to the NCAA postseason in the last six years, one of 28 schools nationally to accomplish the feat…Cougars have advanced to the second round twice in that span…last year, Washington State was eliminated by Illinois in the first round on penalty kicks to finish 14-3-4.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES

Senior midfielder Nicole Setterlund was named Preseason All-America Third Team by College Sports Madness…Setterlund was also ranked at No. 80 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 100…midfielder Sofia Anker-Kofoed was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women’s Soccer Preseason Best XI Freshman Team.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Gurveen Clair, junior Kourtney Guetlein and senior forward Jocelyn Jeffers enter the season ranked in career categories at Washington State…Clair is first in goals against average (0.72), save percentage (82.3), shutouts (24), wins (34)…also ranked in goalkeeper matches played (second, 60), goalkeeper matches started (second, 57), goalkeeper minutes (second, 5,267), saves (fourth, 195)…Guetlein is the school record holder for assists per game (0.32) and tied for ninth in assists (13)…Jeffers is tied for eighth in game-winning goals (6) and is 10th in goals (16).

PROTECT THE HOUSE

Washington State is undefeated in its last-25 meetings in Pullman against unranked, nonconference opponents.

ABOUT THE HORNED FROGS

The Cougars and Horned Frogs will meet for the first time in women’s soccer…TCU was 6-10-3, 2-5-1 Big 12 (seventh) last season…Horned Frogs have 12 returners and 17 newcomers…coached by Eric Bell in his third season.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Washington State set over 30 school records last season and made its fifth trip to the NCAA postseason in the last six years…Cougars hosted the NCAA First Round (first time since 200) and were eliminated on penalty kicks by Illinois…Washington State began the season 7-0-3, the best start in school history…senior Micaela Castain was named Pac-12 Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-America honors.
