PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State head football coach Mike Leach announced Tuesday that linebacker Chandler Leniu has signed a financial aid agreement to play for the Cougars this fall.
Leniu, 6-2, 230 out of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., originally signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of California. The Lakewood, Calif. native finished his high school career with 526 tackles, 26 tackles-for-loss and five sacks, was a two-time Trinity League Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Southern Section Pac 5 Division selection as a junior and senior.
As a senior, he earned Parade All-America honorable mention honors after tallying 238 tackles, third-most in California and sixth-most in the country, including nine tackles-for-loss and two interceptions. He helped lead SJHS to a 16-0 record, a No. 1 national ranking by MaxPreps and a California Open Division State title. He is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com including the No. 11 inside linebacker prospect in the country by Rivals.com and the top middle linebacker in the West by Scout.com.
