PULLMAN, Wash. – Michael Conforto drove in three runs and No. 5 Oregon State defeated Washington State 8-1, Sunday in the rubber game of a Pac-12 baseball series.
The Beavers (27-7, 11-4 Pac-12) scored the only runs they needed in a two-run first inning against Washington State (16-16, 7-5) starter Jason Monda (1-3).
Conforto singled in the first run and scored on a single by Dylan Davis, the Pac-12 leader in RBI. The Beavers added two runs in the fifth off Monda and four in the eighth against the Cougar bullpen. Jace Frye (7-1) gave up one run on three hits in eight innings to earn the win.
“We got punched in the face today and had no reaction,” Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. “We were given opportunities and didn’t do anything with them.”
The lone Cougar run came in the eighth when Nick Tanielu tripled and scored on a ground ball off the bat of P.J. Jones.
Washington State travels to Gonzaga for a game at 6 p.m., Tuesday.
