BOISE, Idaho – Washington State women’s soccer won a pair of spring matches, last Saturday. The Cougars improved their spring record to 3-1-0 with wins over Boise State and Utah State, both by a score of 1-0.

“We talked a lot about playing a style and not a system and we continued to progress in that aspect,” Washington State Head Coach Steve Nugent said. “Playing back-to-back games was a challenge and we handled it very well.”

The Cougars did not face a dangerous chance against the Broncos and maintained possession for much of the 70 minute match. Korynn Blanksma scored on a header off a cross from the left side by Nicole Setterlund.

“Korynn came off the bench and made a tremendous impact,” Nugent said. “She changed the game for us.”

Washington State had less than an hour between matches before taking on the Aggies. A terrific combination led to a Jocelyn Jeffers goal in the box with Beau Bremer’s providing the assist off a service from the right side.

The Cougars once again recorded the majority of possession and did not prevent a threatening chance from their opponent.

“I thought we could have made better decision closer to goal and we did not show a lot of imagination in the final third of the field,” Nugent said. “But playing in back-to-back games, and given our travel schedule, I am really pleased with our defense and the two victories.”

Washington State will take on the Cougar men’s club team at noon, Saturday in Pullman.
