PULLMAN, Wash. -- Four Washington State volleyball players will be among the 248 athletes from 106 colleges and universities to participate in the three-day tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team and U.S. Collegiate National Teams this weekend in Sports Center II at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Cougars participating in the tryouts are junior Ver’Leea Hardaway, sophomore Kate Sommer, and freshmen Emmy Allen and Kyra Holt.

“We are thrilled that Washington State volleyball will be well-represented at the USA Volleyball tryouts this weekend,” Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “This is a wonderful experience for these four players and we know that they will do a great job. We look forward to sending additional players in the future!”

Sommer had a career-high 36 digs in a 3-2 come-from-behind win at No. 23 California last fall. Her 36 digs in a match is the second-most in WSU all-time records. Sommer tallied double-digit digs in 27 of 33 matches in 2013. Her 954 digs is 10th-best in WSU career records.

Allen is a 6-2 outside hitter from Mill Creek, Wash. Allen was named to the 2013 Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention team. She contributed 1.66 kills per set, playing in 100 of the team’s 123 sets. Allen was one of 24 seniors nationally named to the 2012 Under Armour High School All-America First Team. She was the MVP of winning Team West and tabbed Best Server at the 2012 Under Armour Volleyball Match & Skills Competition.

Holt is a 6-1 outside hitter from Hercules, Calif. She was the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year as well as named to the Pac-12 Honorable Mention team and the Pac-12 All-Freshman First Team. She was a four-time Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Week selection. Holt led the Cougars with 3.89 kills per set, seventh-best in Pac-12 and 53rd-best nationally, and 4.53 points per set, seventh-best in Pac-12 and 40th-best nationally.
