PULLMAN, Wash. – The Pac-12 Conference has released its 2014 schedule and Washington State will host five conference games in Martin Stadium along with a season-opening contest against Rutgers for The Seattle Game.
“This is truly an outstanding schedule for our team and for our fans,” said WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos. “Having six games in Martin Stadium has not happened in a while and the conference slate of home games is outstanding. In addition, playing new Big Ten member Rutgers in Seattle on the Thursday night of Labor Day weekend should prove to be attractive in regards to attracting a great crowd as well as a large national television audience.
The Cougars open their 2014 schedule in The Seattle Game presented by Washington’s Beef Producers against Rutgers Aug. 28 at CenturyLink Field. The game marks the first meeting against Rutgers, which begins play in the Big Ten Conference this season. The following week WSU travels to Nevada for a meeting against the Wolf Pack (Sept. 6). In the last meeting against Nevada, the Cougars posted a 55-21 win in Reno during the 2005 season.
The Martin Stadium opener will be Sept. 13 when the Cougars host Portland State, the final nonconference contest on the schedule. Pac-12 play begins Sept. 20 when the Cougars host Oregon, the Ducks first appearance in Pullman since the 2010 campaign.
Utah is next on the schedule Sept. 27 followed by a Homecoming matchup against California in Pullman, Oct. 4. A meeting with two-time defending Pac-12 champion Stanford is Friday, Oct. 10 in Stanford, Calif., the lone non-Saturday tilt during conference play.
Following the first of two byes during the season, the Cougars return to action Oct. 25 against Arizona in Martin Stadium. The Arizona game will highlight the annual Dad’s Weekend on the Pullman campus. The USC Trojans return to Martin Stadium for the first time since the 2010 season when the Cougars play host Nov. 1.
Two road contests sandwich the final bye week as the Cougars are at Oregon State (Nov. 8) and Arizona State (Nov. 22) to close out the road portion of the schedule.
WSU concludes its 2014 regular season by facing Washington in the Apple Cup, Saturday, Nov. 29, in Martin Stadium.
