PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State defensive end Xavier Cooper was named the Defensive Lineman of the Week, the College Football Performance Awards announced Monday.
Cooper, a redshirt-sophomore, tallied a career-high eight tackles including 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble and recovered another fumble which he returned 29 yards for a touchdown at No. 2 Oregon this past Saturday. It was the first fumble returned for a touchdown by the Cougar defense since Will Derting did so in the 2004 Apple Cup.
For the season, the Tacoma, Wash. native owns 29 tackles including a team-high 8.5 tackles-for-loss and is tied for the team lead with 3.0 sacks.
