PULLMAN – The ceremonial "topping out" of the new Football Operations Building took place Tuesday afternoon as the final beam was placed on the structure.

Washington State University Director of Athletics Bill Moos was the last to sign the final beam and was on hand to see the final piece of framework put in place.

"It's one more indication of the progress we're making with Cougar Athletics and to be hear today to see the final beam go up is a thrill for me as the Athletic Director and as a former football player and alum at Washington State," Moos said on Tuesday.

The final beam was painted white and on one side, the WSU football players, coaches and staff signed their names. The other side of the beam was also painted and signed by the crew of iron workers who worked on the building.

"Topping out" is a long-standing tradition of large construction projects that includes signing the final beam. Additionally, a tree is placed on the beam, in addition to an American flag and WSU flag. The Football Operations Building has grown in front of fans' eyes during the 2013 football season at Martin Stadium and will be completed in Spring 2014.
